Medical Gas Pipeline Systems

Medical gas within the hospital environment is essential, with at least 60% of patients being administered during their stay.

However, it’s vital that staff are very aware of their potential hazards. Regular training of correct hospital procedures, maintenance and emergency actions are required if medical gases are to be used safely.

Initially delivered as a classroom session, this development project aimed to present key information from the Horder Healthcare staff manual in an interactive and accessible way, for both clinical and non-clinical staff. With Horder Healthcare expanding in staff numbers and hospital sites, delivering this information within an elearning format was an effective means of training all staff quickly and consistently.

This course was developed in line with the new Horder Healthcare brand guidelines for installation on their dedicated learning platform.

We were keen to create a very custom-made feel for the organisation and therefore incorporated many bespoke graphic illustrations and on-site photography using real staff.

A topic wheel menu system was designed to allow users to visit the elearning content in any order they desired, designing their own learning journey.

As each Horder Healthcare staff member has unique duties with regards to medical gases, it was essential that users could filter course information specific to their role. We established this structure in an initial interactive organisation chart, outlining the roles and responsibilities for each staff group.

Other design layouts included layered factsheets, outlining colour coding, cylinder types and dimensions; drag and drop exercises; navigating clinder labels; and interactive hospital floorplans, allowing staff to locate and understand the role of alarms and AVSU’s throughout the building. Two separate assessments were developed for both clinical and non-clinical staff, to be completed at the end of the course.
